Crayon Art

These are blowing up all over Pinterest and the internet in general. Annnd then my neighbor made one for right outside her room at school.

I decided I'd make one for outside my door too :) , but wanted to do something a little different. I thought about melting only greens to make flowers like this:

But then I found a flower one someone had done that I liked even more!

So I went to work! I picked up a canvas, some grey acrylic paint, letter stickers and a couple boxes of the 64 pack crayons since I only wanted to do a few colors with it.

I put stickers down for my name and painted over the whole canvas with the grey paint.   Then I peeled the stickers up and touched the letters up with white paint where the grey seeped under it (I should have done a coat of white first.. oh well! Then I sorted my crayons into reds and yellows for the two flowers I wanted to do. I also peeled off the labels and broke them in half.. kind of like they did in the one above. Then you just glue them all down and turn on your hair dryer until they melt!! After I melted the crayons as much as I wanted, I let it cool and then glued down some buttons for the center of the flowers.

Here's the finished product!

  1. Very cool. Does it have to be done on canvas or can you use something like watercolor paper? I'm feeling like I'd like to try my hand, like I need to explore something new.
